#1 God preordained it. Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)- “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart...” First things first. We don’t have to find our purpose, because our purpose is an innate feature. God knew what you were meant to do and be when He created you, and He has not made your purpose a secret. Your purpose is strung throughout His word.
#2 You are created to worship. 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)- “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Christians have been chosen by God that they may declare His praises! We were created to worship God. That is our purpose. But how do we fulfill this purpose?
#3 Matthew 5:16 (KJV)- “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Let the light that you carry in your heart shine for all to see. Live a life that reflects God’s character so those who don’t know the Lord might be drawn to the Light and come to know Him. Your purpose is to draw others to the one who is love and light, wherever you are.
#4 Colossians 3:17 (NKJV)- “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” This is purpose: that no matter what you do, you are doing it as one of God’s representatives to glorify His name. Whether you are a cashier in a grocery store or a singer on the road to being widely known, you are a Christian first. Your attitude, words and actions should reflect He who lives in you.
#5 Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)- “Let us hear the conclusion of the matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” God’s will, His commandment, is that we love Him by being obedient and love others. When we fulfill His will by showing love in the form of compassion, kindness, patience, and forgiveness, we are fulfilling our purpose. Our career, talents and skills are not our purpose, but they can be used for our purpose, which is to glorify God. By staying humble when you get that promotion, by thanking God when people are blessed by your work, by being excellent in all that you do, you are living in your purpose.

Fulfilling your purpose is living in a way that brings glory and honor to God, which can be done regardless of what position you’re in. So don’t wait for some monumental moment or opportunity to begin walking in purpose. No! Do it today, right where you are.
