This Means War! How to Win the Battle Against the Spirit of Fear || Read For Free

Fear is paralyzing. If you let it, it instantly robs you of your ability to move forward with your life in an enjoyable and healthy way, and receive all God has for you.

Though we know that “God has not given us the spirit of fear” according to 2 Timothy 2:7, we fail to recognize fear as what the Bible calls it: a spirit from the enemy.

The word fear in this verse is "deilia," which means timidity. So then, God has not given us a cowardly spirit that causes us to draw back. He has not ordained that we be afraid of any of life’s challenges—whatever comes against us, whether that be natural or spiritual.

Sickness, enemies, or adversity in any form don’t have to intimidate you once you recognize cowardliness and timidity are manifestations of an evil spirit. You can wage spiritual war against fear. You can tear down this stronghold!

Ephesians 6:12 NIV plainly says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

To reiterate, the fight against fear is all-out spiritual battle. It’s time to fight fear and the unnecessary worry it causes. You can win by the authority of Jesus Christ.

No matter how prevalent fear is in your life today, you have the power to banish it. But know this: you cannot come against it on our own. With God, however, all things are possible according Matthew 19:26.

If you are struggling with fear or anxiety, here are 5 scriptures to assist you in your battle as you pray and apply the word of God to your issues:

Psalm 34:4 (NLT)- “I prayed to the LORD, and he answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” When you’re feeling anxious and afraid about what you’re dealing with and don’t quite know how to shake the feeling, pray. Seek the Lord. Tap into your power source. Give all your worries to Him and let Him deal with them. He will hear you and will bring about your deliverance from all your fears as the psalmist says.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This scripture is a command. Do not be anxious. Do not be fearful. Instead of giving into that debilitating spirit of fearfulness, the word of God says, in every situation, pray. Let your requests be made known to God. He’s waiting to hear from you and stands ready to uphold you. When you commune with the Lord and trust God to take care of the things that trouble you, you will have this amazing sense of peace.  When you let go of your fears and focus on the One who is greater than them all, you’ll experience a shift in your life.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)- “For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” The enemy wants you to be fearful so you won’t focus on the fact that God has great things for you! If you’re constantly worried, anxious and stressed, you won’t get your expectancy up and exercise the faith necessary to walk in God’s favor. Don’t you know the Lord had a plan pictured in His mind for your life before the foundations of the world and fear just does not fit in the frame? His plans are good! So, declare this: Fear will not destroy me because God has too much planned for my prosperous future.

Hebrews 13:6 (ESV)- “So we can say with confidence, ‘The LORD is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” When you have the Almighty God on your side, you can be confident that nothing and no one that comes up against you will claim victory. You have the upper-hand in the fight, because the Maker of the world and all that is in it is on your side. Fear cannot hold you down, anxiety cannot take you out, and worry cannot destroy you.

1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)- “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” God knows, sees and cares about what concerns you. When you lay all that ails you at the feet of Jesus, be it fear or anything else, He can handle it. His strength will manifest in you and His great comfort will bring you joy, and peace. He loves you and desires to be your greatest support. Just put your troubles and your fears not only in good hands, but in God’s hands.
