Are You Distracted by the Craziness of the World? Here Are Three (3) Scriptures to Help Refocus You || Read For Free

By definition, a distraction is something that turns your attention away from something else, and agitates your mind, and emotions. All the latest news on Donald Trump, investigations into Russian ties, who and what is racist, and Twitter hashtag-driven outrage, are all distractions.

A distraction from what, you ask? A distraction from God and your divine assignment on earth.

It’s good to be aware of what’s going on in the world, but if you become consumed by news of who did what wrong, or what you should supposedly be livid about until the next Twitter trend comes along, you will forget to place your full attention where it truly belongs—on spiritual things.

Ask yourself, have I gotten distracted?

If you realize you may have gotten and bit off track and need to get refocused, here are 3 recommended scriptural references to help you. Be sure to read and meditate on them.

Luke 10: 38-42: Sitting at the Feet of Jesus

As you read this familiar Bible story, assess whether you are more like Mary or Martha. Many times, we mirror Martha, worrying about so many things that are of such little value to our spiritual growth. We must learn to be like Mary, realizing that yes, there is work to be done in the world, but the most important thing is to sit at Jesus’s feet and be guided by His wisdom. How can we sit at the feet of
the Savior? Joshua 1:8 (NLT) reads, “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” When our mind is set on the teachings of scripture, then we will be able to avoid distraction and prioritize our Kingdom agenda in the earth.

Matthew 9:37: Reaping the Harvest

In this verse, Christ laments to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.” This is as true today as it was back then! Where are all the Kingdom laborers? There are countless souls waiting to be saved, yet no one has introduced them to the gospel. Why is this? It could be because Christ’s ambassadors are wasting too much time, thoughts and energy addressing the
trivialities of the world, instead of sharing God’s message of hope with the lost. Let’s get focused so we can be about our Father’s business.

Matthew 6:21: Make Sure Your Heart is in the Right Place

This verse says, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” We must take care to remember that we are not preparing for tomorrow, but for eternity. Therefore, our minds should be fixed on spiritual things that are admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8, NIV). Focus on the Lord, His Word and His ways—all things that have eternal weight and value. When your mind
is stayed on God, you will be more joyful, more effective at winning souls for the Kingdom, and less prone to getting caught up in the foolishness of the world.

I believe God is challenging you—and all of us—to refocus, never taking our eyes off our eternal purpose. It’s okay to be mindful of the happenings in the world. In fact, you should. But ultimately, our attention should be given above all else to fulfilling the will of the Father.
