Bishop T.D. Jakes’ Worship Leader Maranda Curtis’s Self-funded Project tops Billboard Charts

Bishop T.D. Jakes’ Worship Leader Maranda Curtis’s Self-funded Project tops Billboard Charts.

If you’ve ever felt like reaching your goals with little backing was impossible, Maranda Curtis, worship leader at Bishop TD Jakes’ The Potter’s House of Dallas church, is giving you some inspiration.

The singer’s independent, self-funded album, The Maranda Experience Volume 1, is topping Billboard charts, proving that hard work, prayer and determination pays off.

“This body of work has involved so much hard work, tears, prayer, extreme sacrifice, entertaining thoughts and conversations of going to labels,” wrote the Miami, Florida native on social media this week. “I almost aborted this project because life happened to me and I couldn't see my way out of it.”

The powerhouse psalmist, who is featured in several of Jakes’ recent viral praise and worship clips, admits to her thousands of followers that the journey to her latest milestone has not been an easy one. “From being misunderstood, to clocking out of everything related to this project, from no confidence, to embracing my authentic self, God gave me a second wind,” wrote Curtis.

The Maranda Experience is currently available on iTunes and across all major digital outlets.

The anointed psalmist, whose palpable passion moves Christian audiences across the nation, has crossover appeal, too. On Aug. 5, R&B singer and American Idol alum, Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, co-signed The Maranda Experience, admonishing her nearly 3 million Instagram followers to purchase a copy.

“I don't know her but I would travel the world to be in a room of worship and to be in the presence of the Holies of holy (Abba Father),” wrote Barrino-Taylor. “Thank you young lady for your work, your gift and your fight.”

Curtis, 38, who says she, at one point, doubted that she could bankroll the project herself and effectively get the word out to the public without the help of a label, wrote, “I bless God for never letting me give up! Grateful for my friends who didn't let me give up. Grateful for the decision to go forth and release this project without any assistance because I wanted to see what I could do on my own and now I'm here.”

Now she and everyone around her sees what is truly possible.

The preacher’s kid, who uprooted herself from the Atlanta area and settled in Dallas to accept Jakes’ offer, said, “Hard work really pays off!”

Curtis’ vocal agility and unique sound is resonating with audiences everywhere, impressively landing her at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart in addition to her No. 1 Top Gospel Albums slot.

“Thank you to everyone that was a part of this process,” wrote Curtis, adding hashtags #Grateful and #ThereIsNoDefeat.
