Will Smith writes Foreword For Christian Doctor Bennet Omalu’s Memoir About the Real-life Story Behind the Movie ‘Concussion’

Will Smith has penned the foreword for Truth Doesn't Have a Side: My Alarming Discovery About the Danger of Contact Sports by Christian doctor Bennet Omalu.

Smith played Dr. Omalu in the major motion picture Concussion and writes how a Nigerian-born forensic pathologist, who discovered chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), taught him what it means to be an American.

The Academy Award-nominated actor writes, "If you want to understand Dr. Bennet Omalu, don't look at the acronyms that come after his name or read the papers he's authored; listen to his laugh."

He continues, "It's the laugh of someone who possesses the freedom that can only come when you know that you are doing exactly what you were destined to do."

In Truth Doesn't Have a Side, Dr. Omalu shares the journey of his life story becoming a movie and meeting  Smith for the first time. He also reveals that what inspired him to keep fighting for the truth was his deep faith.

"There is more to his story than what viewers saw on movie screens," says David Morris, vice president and publisher of Zondervan books. "Dr. Bennett is a man of deep faith and conviction. He wants to share how his faith carried him from a young boy suffering from malnutrition in Nigeria to becoming a highly recognized doctor courageously fighting for victims of CTE. This is a story of overcoming around one of today's most fascinating topics."

Dr. Omalu continues to research CTE, an important social and medical issue that is not bound by one sport. Readers will learn more about the disease and how Dr. Omalu's research can help adapt contact sports, especially those played by children, to be safer.
